SEO Consultant
SEO Consultants act pretty much in the same way that consultants work in the rest of business today. They generally provide information to assist companies in specific area where the company’s knowledge is not so strong and are deployed in several guises.
Generally free advice is given as a method of engagement and the consultant’s time will be used to help define what the advised company requires without giving too much information about the delivery and what it is entailed to achieve it.
With SEO consultants most of the techniques discussed on this site or within this blog (now and in the future) will deliver what a client expect as management of the client expectation is one of the key parts of good constructive consultants delivery.
A good SEO Consultant will obviously be able to offer you technical insight at the highest level, but perhaps more important is the ability to do so without loads of technical jargon and in a way that makes the recommendations relevant to your business and the measurable goals you have set.
By way of a short list and to demonstrate some of the key points I have put a list together of things to look for:
- Everyone is a sales person in any sphere of activity but be aware of sales guys that do NOT understand or have not been part of actually deploying SEO for a client – it may sound obvious but good quality SEO is a balancing act but in most part common sense.
- Look for companies that have achieved page one of Google – if that is the chosen requirement, for good quality and difficult keywords. SEO Services Now – [sales banter mode off] have achieved that and are willing to provide the contact and references to back this up – also when vetting a SEO consultant ask them how long it took to achieve their activity.
- Get information for free, SEO consultants that are happy to do this have no fear that what they are saying is true but it will be only a part of what is needed to be done.
- Don’t be afraid to ask difficult questions as a good SEO consultant can answer them in plain English.
- Have a look round, research and get them to provide you with some keywords that they have deployed that HAVEN’T been successful and the reason for failure.
- Aim for contracts that are less than a year or that are performance or service related.
- Above all check the chosen partner thoroughly, it is a long term strategy as maintenance is part of the requirement – this is not a fire and forget scenario and keeping the consultant on hand when needed on a regular basis is part of the strategy.
This is a results based activity and a good SEO consultant should be able to provide what you want and when (Approximately) you want it.
